CUPS also has its own browsing protocol separate from Rendezvous. Look
for BrowseProtocols, BrowseAddress, and BrowseAllow in
/etc/cups/cupsd.conf. I'm using it to share a Linux printer for all of
my Macs.

If the printers support Rendevous then, as other have pointed out,
Rendevous is what you need to read up on.
If the printers are IP printers, but do not support Rendevous, then
there
is simply no discovery protocol available. The printer is (likely) an
lpr
printer. lpr is output only; they don't talk back.
At that point, you can only do manual "discovery" (i.e. ask the user
;-)
