Can I FTP to a Mac?

Title: Can I FTP to a Mac?

I would like to send a file to my Mac (OS v9.2.2, OT v2.7.9) via FTP from a Unix node.

I tried the simple version of FTP:
ftp MyMac

which was met with:
ftp: connect: Connection refused

Is there a way to make this work? I have full ownership of the Mac but only user-level control of the Unix (Sun Solaris) system.
