First, this is not the right forum for your question. This mailing list
is for programming questions. Your question is a network configuration/
end user question.

This is indeed your problem. I have seen this topic on other lists
before. .local is reserved for Rendevous. I believe it has not been made
officially standard and apparently conflicts with other attempts to
standardize on an internal TLD for networks.
If you want your Mac's to work on your internal network, you'll have to
find a different TLD.
