CFHost and Rendezvous names

I've been using CFHost for a while to resolve host names to IP addresses which I later use with CFSocket. It has worked great, until today when a beta tester reported a connection failure. It turns out that CFHost doesn't resolve Rendezvous addresses (whatever.local).

Is CFHost supposed to behave like this? Am I using the wrong method for resolving local host names? Any ideas on how to resolve this problem?
