I also know how to get the user/password for a specific proxy from
the KeyChain, but if I add a username/password to a proxy in the
Network Prefs, then uncheck the box "Password required", then I can
not find this setting, and the username/password is still in the
KeyChain.
That's not my experience. What system are you testing on? On my
computer (Mac OS X 10.3.7), if I uncheck the "Password required"
checkbox, the item disappears from the keychain.
$ security dump-keychain 2> before.txt
[... uncheck the checkbox ...]
$ security dump-keychain 2> after.txt
$ diff before.txt after.txt
