Because new APIs are designed to encourage you to stop using CFM.

Wow, that's ugly.  But it works!  Thanks so much for the info.  I wasn't sure I was ever going to get this thing working.
 
Given that the solution to this problem is nothing short of a hack, and it seems to be a fairly common requirement of calling into CFBundles, why isn't there a supported API to handle the function pointer conversion?
