I recommend looking at the MoreSCF Framework written by Quinn
available as part of the MoreIsBetter (MIB) release. Download the
MoreIsBetter code from developer.apple.com and check out the great
MoreSCF examples.

It is a lot more involved (or at least was) to get these set up than
it is in Windows, but this code makes it very simple. I have written
(and rewritten) an app exactly like the one you just mentioned. The
trickiest stuff arose from our need to support the full range of OS X
releases. 10.4 has much nicer higher level API's for System
Configuration.
