Macs in an Active Directory environment

I hope this is the appropriate place to post this question.

We are working on getting our Macs to authenticate to our Active Directory accounts. We have gotten to the point of being able to log in via domain accounts successfully, however, the networked user has Read Only permissions to the home folder. Therefore the user can do nothing, and we cannot create a mobile user account for the same reason. The login when we select the computer to create a mobile user account will just spin the little pinwheel forever, because it is trying to write cached credentials to the account so that the computer can be logged into when not on the network. We need this for our laptop users.

Has anyone else had this problem? And is there a resolution to giving network users permissions to their own home folder on the local machine?

Thanks in advance for any information you can give.
