I'm use the terms from Technote 2083 "Daemons and Agents". Admittedly, I wrote the technote (-: but at least I didn't invent the terms.

So, would you classify your program as an agent?  Here's a quick test:

o If it links with GUI frameworks (anything above the CoreServices layer), it's definitely an agent.

o If it does stuff on behalf of a specific user, it's probably an agent.

o If it reads files from the user's home directory, it's probably an agent.
