I had a simple enough goal: trigger a dynamic DNS update for each VPN client as soon as they connected. This was easy enough to do with an ip-up script in /etc/ppp, but while it executes successfully, the mere presence of this script prevents any actual IP traffic from going over the VPN once it connects. Even if the script just exits after the shebang, nothing, not even a ping will go through. Removing the script and reconnecting sets everything back to normal again.
My first question is simply: Why does this happen?
My second question is: Is there any other way I can get a script to run whenever a VPN connection is established short of writing a daemon app that registers for SC notifications?
