CFSocket was written well before kqueues became available. It's on the list of things to do <rdar://problem/3266335>. I should point that a change at this level will have to be done very carefully to avoid compatibility bugs and to ensure that it actually improves performance. The current CFSocket implementation has been very carefully tuned.
