- Thread-topic: ARP moves logged to sys.log from teamed NIC - How set net.link.ether.inet.log_arp_movements=0 ??
Greetings to the list-
Here's the issue and thanks in advance!
***
OS: 10.4.x
Mixed environment, Win AD domain, 2 or 3 macs on a local LAN with a handful
Wintel machines.
Local DC with teamed NIC's serving up IP's on DHCP.
The Mac's are logging innumerable 'arp - moved' notifications, filling the
logs with a ton of messaging.
***
Here's what I know- The arp moves are caused by the Nic team performing it's
load-balancing work.
I'd like to turn off the messages, research points to sysctl variable
"net.link.ether.inet.log_arp_movements" as being the way to achieve
suppression of the messaging, but...
I can't figure out how to set the dang variable!
I've gotten as far as attempting to set the var in sysctl.conf, but it's
ignored- doing a sysctl -w to set yields a "net: class is not implemented".
Something tells me the var may need to be defined in RC, but I'm a bit
nervous, being a very casual BSD guy, to get in and muck about with the
file.
Is there any way to set net.link.ether.inet.log_arp_movements in OS X?
Many thanks to the group... Sure would be nice to clean up all this
superfluous messaging!
