The loopback network should already be setup for you.
Run ifconfig, you should see 127.0.0.1 and ::1 on lo0 (the loopback
interface). Maybe your java application should be fixed.
You can always attach a hub to your Mac Book Pro. That will trigger
the mac to get an IPv4LL address.
How does this mystery java app detect if there is a network? Does it
look for more than the loopback address assigned? Does it look for a
default gateway? Does it look for DNS servers? Does it verify DNS can
resolve specific names? Does it attempt to ping a specific address or
name? Does it attempt to connect? What level of network connectivity
is it looking for?

Hello all,
I have a java application which will detect the presences of
networking before it will run otherwise it will just quit without
warning. The colleague of mine have just stumble to this problem
because he is suppose to demo the software on his Mac Book Pro
without any network connection.
Is it possible to set up a loopback network for a stand alone Mac
with OS X ? It must to be simple to be install and remove.
Thanks in advance.
Peter.
