Upgrading a kext

  • Subject: Upgrading a kext

I've got a KPI-based kernel extension that we're distributing to our users via a standard package installer. After a recent upgrade, some users recently reported seeing the following in the System.log:

Nov 24 15:59:23 Micks-Powerbook com.apple.SystemStarter[27]: kextload: loaded version 27 of module com.mycompany.kext differs from requested version 31
Nov 24 15:59:23 Micks-Powerbook com.apple.SystemStarter[27]: kextload: a different version of /System/Library/Extensions/ MyKext.kext, or of one of its dependencies, is already loaded

As a consequence of this, our kext is not loaded. When I check the plist of the kext in /System/Library/Extensions, the CFBundleVersion is 31. That fact leads me to believe that the previous kext has been cached somewhere. Can anyone point me at some relevant documentation or explain what's going on?
