quick question on OSX handling of ICMP Redirects

  • Subject: quick question on OSX handling of ICMP Redirects

Hi folks,

On another list, a user brought up the topic of ICMP Redirects. He asked about changing the expiration time. Turns out the user just wanted to delete them immediately, but that got me to thinking...

It seems FreeBSD uses a combination of timer and failures to invalidate ICMP Redirect routes (http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/cvsweb.cgi/src/sys/netinet/in_rmx.c?annotate=1.59 ). This can be managed by ioctl. Does Mac OS X inherit that functionality? Is there anything higher up in the frameworks to actually manage the expiration time (as opposed to just deleting with "route").

forgive the possibly noob question,

Jaime Magiera
