Ok, thanks, I see now that Firefox has it’s own settings for
auto proxy detect.
Does Apple have plans to add this at some point to OSX network
settings?

Are you saying that the MAC does WPAD and there is somewhere to
lookup the result of the IP of where to find wpad.dat?
Nope, you'll have to do the DNS / DHCP stuff yourself.
