Network Services Question

Hello all,

I have been searching for the past few hours and have been unable to find
documentation on what it is I wish to do. I am hoping that someone here can
point me in the correct direction on which topics or keywords for which I should
search.

Basically, I would like to write an application/service that does a particular
action when someone clicks on a particular type of link in a web browser.
Specifically, when somone clicks a link with the following format, I would
like my application to do something special:

"psyn://someurl.com/stuff"

So, I guess my question is how do I register the "psyn" protocol prefix so that
OS X will recognize it and pass control over to my application. I have been
playing with Bonjour and it seems that this may be what I want to use, but
when I click the link in Safari, I get an error stating that Safari does not know
what to do with internet addresses starting with "psyn".

Any help and pointers will be greatly appreciated! Thank you very much!
