Actually, that's changed in 10.5, where we now have a proper API to modify both the per-user and global login items list. See "LSSharedFileList.h" for details.

Cool! I hadn't seen that yet, even thought it is mentioned in TN2083.


Alas, I haven't yet had time to write a sample that shows how to use
this.  It's a pretty simple API though.

It could also use a bit more documentation. But I agree, that it is basically usable.
