  • Thread-topic: post-PAC file filtering of proxies

Hi,

I had posted an earlier question about the CFNetworkCopyProxiesForAutoConfigurationScript() function and was told the scheme doesn't really matter as everything is simply passed on to the PAC file for actual processing. I've since tried a few different environments/scenarios and it seems that the system is post-filtering out PROXY proxies for any non-HTTP/HTTPS URLs that are requested.

For example, say I create a simple PAC file that always returns 2 PROXY proxies and 2 SOCKS proxies. For a URL such as "http://someurl.com"; it always returns all 4 proxies, but for a URL such as "unknown://someisp.com" it only returns the 2 SOCKS proxies, and never the 2 PROXY proxies.

Is this known or expected behavior? I was searching online but nothing I could find suggested that PROXY proxies could only be used for http(s) traffic so I'm a little confused.

Thanks,
Tommy
