I've submitted a bug report about these leaks about 2 months ago that
got closed as "Can't Reproduce". Our app still suffers a lot from
these leaks and there's nothing holding on to the leaked blocks except
for NSURLConnection.

Not quite sure what you're asking -- I'm using SDK 2.1 on an iPod
touch, with the sendSynchronousRequest API as previously noted..
I have not seen this happen in the simulator so far.
It's interesting that it only happens with
sendSynchronousRequest:returningResponse:error...
I'll mock up a quick test to see if I can't reproduce.
