Just following up, after Josh's reply: I don't understand the bit
about write access. I don't think there's a priori a requirement
to write something. Can you explain a bit more?
If there's no parent/child relationship between the two processes,
the only way to create a UNIX domain socket connection between them
is by one process creating a listening socket. That requires write
access to some part of the file system, no?
Just to confirm, that was the source of my question... I've got two
unrelated processes (not a parent/child relationship), neither can
write to a common part of the file system and I want to pass a file
descriptor from one to the other. My research was showing there wasn't
a way to do it, but I thought I'd ask anyway.
Thanks,
Dave
