Standard way to read byte transfer rates from a USB modem?

Hi!

I need to adapt an existing application (a dialer application that connects to a USB modem) so it will use standard commands and configurations to connect and to get connection information. The original application used vendor-specific AT commands and configurations. I was able to find out how to obtain the same results with standard modem AT commands and using the System Configuration interface and dynamic store for almost all the application's features. I just didn't find a way to discover the byte transfer rates (in, out, total in, total out). The modem uses a proprietary AT command for that. I believe there must be a standard way to get the same info, since if you dial via the Mac OS Network services interface, a couple of green bars showing data transfer is shown. Does anybody know to get that information during an active connection?

Thanks in advance for any ideas,
