You can get similar information from I/O Registry. Take a look at the <IOKit/network/IONetworkStats.h> header and then go rummaging in the I/O Registry with IORegistryExplorer.


The sysctl approach has the advantage that it will work with non-registry based devices, such as PPP and VPN.
