Oh, I forgot to say that another possibility is that played a little with statfs(2) as a possible solution. I can definitely tell it's on an afp volume from the fact that the mntfromname field of the returned struct is, for example:

   afp_2lZ2Za000bB10000oM0000VU-1.2e00002e

Do those characters after afp_ identify the server somehow?

Does anyone know how to decode it?
