Checking firewall status

I've been looking for a way to check firewall status from an application, so that we can tell the user why the app isn't working when the firewall's set to "Block All Incoming". I haven't run across anything except some discussion of parsing it out of some plist files, which seems like a pretty fragile hack...

I thought "Surely there's an API to find out if the firewall's on...", but so far no luck.

Can anyone point me towards such an API, or give a definite answer about it's non-existence if it *doesn't* exist?

Thanks.

Kevin
