Hi,
I know it is possible to write Printer Browser Modules (PBMs) to
extend the Print & Fax pane of System Preferences, and Printer Dialog
Extensions (PDEs). However, is it possible to extend the behavior of
the Network pane of System Preferences in a legitimate/authorized
manner? For example, rather than just Ethernet, Airport, FireWire, &
VPN showing up in the interfaces list have a "MyDevice" interface show
up in the list? I know Parallels (the virtual machine software) has
their own VPN show up in the list, but that is just another VPN
instance. I'm curious about whether it is possible to extend the
Network preference pane to have a new type of interface show up in the
list with its own custom UI to the right of the list when clicked on.
If so, what is this type of plugin/extension called (like PBM, PDE,
etc)? And is there any Apple developer documentation on the topic?
Thanks!
