Hi,
First of all, I am a complete newbie on Mac OS X platform and getting my hands
on slowly. I am writing a tool that should
print the mac address for appliance activation and license generation. Here are
the detail of my hardware:
An older imac with Leopard 10.5... that's it. This system has only one built in
wired ethernet adapter.
From now onwards GetPrimaryMacAddress utility will be referred as GPMA.
After successful compilation GPMA returns the correct mac address of my wired
adapter. Fine.
Latest desktops and notebooks produced by Apple has two adapters (wired and
wireless aka Airport). I don't have access of
such hardware. If GPMA returns the mac address of active adapter then it would
be a show stopper. Imagine user is using wired
adapter and sending me the mac of current(wired) one. Later when user will
switch to wireless(Airport) then license verification
process will fail because of wrong mac address.
There are other cases when user is using MacBook Pro with two adapters and
MacBook Air with only one adapter(Airport).
I hope that on MacBook Air utility will *AlWAYS* return the address of Airport
which is fine but in case of MacBook Pro, problem
is similar as mentioned on desktops.
Special case when you have VPN's or other kind of virtual adapters. For example
adapters created by virtualization apps. If there
are cases when this utility will return the address of virtual adapters then it
would be show stopper again.
Any pointers will greatly be apperciated.
Cheers
Prashant
