No. This is the crux of this problem: when you mount a volume over AFP, the client sees an AFP volume, not a disk. The information it can get about the volume is restricted to the information supported by the network file system protocol, and the way that the server implements that protocol. Specifically, in the case of disk characteristics like the block size, that's just not part of the AFP protocol, and there's no way you'll be able to get it from an AFP mounted volume.
There are other ways to share optical media (for example, "DVD or CD Sharing" in the Sharing preferences pane, but third party tools as well) and these do indeed publish a disk on the client.
