Wow- I would need a dongle for a software-only product? Maybe I don't know enough about Bluetooth, I was thinking that since the iPhone and the Mac each have that capability I could use it for communication between them.
What about sample source code that communicates between the two using WiFi? I'm an audio guy, and I'm hoping not to have to get up to speed on all the complexities of networking just to send a few bytes of data at a time from the iPhone to the Mac.

WiFi will be easiest, because Bluetooth requires that you join the MFi program, and incorporate an authentication processor IC into a USB Bluetooth dongle you'll have to make (I suppose you could make an authentication USB device and use the Mac's Bluetooth radio).
