I can't see anything special about the few iPads that exhibit the problem. But I do know one thing: turning off Bluetooth on those iPads solves the problem! I have no idea what Bluetooth would have to do with this. |
Bluetooth and 802.11 (@ 2.4 GHz) share the same band of spectrum, so they will interfere with each other. This has been known for at least a decade, though it doesn't seem to have ever been consider a real concern. If 802.11 is not widely used - e.g. there is only a single network - Bluetooth should tend to avoid the channels used by 802.11. But in the presence of many 802.11 2.4 GHz networks avoidance is not possible.
Why some devices are afflicted by this while others aren't I do not know. At least partly it's a function of physical location. Perhaps there are slight hardware differences that result in differing degrees of coupling between the two antennas. Also, some devices might be using 5 GHz while others are not. For testing purposes, try verifying that all your devices are using either 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz. |
