Everybody has their own separate, unique method for these tasks.  I don't know how many of them offer public documentation of their API's [as in, you may need to sign NDA's to gain access to them], but more than one requires developers to sign up for permission to access their API's and to include this info as part of using it [as in, I (the app) want to sign in using these credentials, and I was developed by developer ID 12345].
