I don't know anything about AT&T specifically, but a lot of cellcos run middleboxen (like so-called 'transparent' proxies) that munge HTTP. A good way to prevent problems with such boxen is to run all of your data over HTTPS. Which is a good thing to do for security reasons anyway (-:
