Thanks for the reply, Quinn. I had a feeling somebody might ask this, because it does not appear to be a very common operation.

I do not need to perform a connect, I need to "validate" the both the DNS domain and short hostname of the client on which my app is running.

I use the term validate loosely here -- I simply mean that I need to see if it conforms to a specific internal naming convention.

Please let me know if you need any more info -- this problem has me stumped.
