Simply stated I have been using an app, written in Java, that has been working flawlessly on Snow Leopard, and Lion. I transitioned to Mountain Lion 10.8.5 and now neither of the latest 2 versions of the app work. Yes I have contacted the authors of the app but the symptoms suggest it might be related to some change in OS X 10.8.5.
The app is called Serviio and, using DLNA, streams media, in my case my DVD's, to my Toshiba 55SL500U TV. Under Lion both Serviio version 1.3.1 and 1.4 work flawlessly. But under Mountain Lion neither of them do so.
The TV is wired to my LAN and it's IP has remained the same between Lion and ML. But now the TV does not seem to be able to connect to the server although it seems to recognize it. Because when I use the TV controller to select the media player it displays the name of the device: LAN-S: Serviio (Gandalf.local). Previously on Lion this did not happen; instead I got to select the media player and then folders such as Photos, Movies, Music, etc
I believe that the DLNA protocol must in fact be implemented between the Serviio server and the Toshiba TV. The only role OS X plays is in management of the packets that are sent over the Ethernet cable between the Mac and the TV. And there us perhaps something different in the handshaking going on between the devices. But I'm just guessing at the moment.
What's puzzling to me is why things work on OS X Lion 10.7.5 but not on OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.5. The only thing that's changed is the Mac OS X version. Which why I am posting here in search of ideas.
Is there some way I can log the dialog between the two devices to examine what's going on? Then I could run both 1.3.1 and 1.4 on Lion and Mountain Lion to see if there's a difference. Or am I going to have to learn Wire Shark? I sure hope not <grin>
TIA for suggestions
Peter
