CWInterface ad-hoc network on 5GHz channels

OS X 10.9, iMac

When I assert an IBSS ad-hoc network programmatically, it works fine when
the channel number is from 1 - 11. However, if I attempt the same code
with any of the channels 36 40 44 48 52 56 60 64 100 104 108 112 116 120
124 128 132 136 140 149 153 157 161 165 it doesn't. There is no indication
of any error or failure, but no ad-hoc network is established. What am I
doing wrong?
