NSURLProtocol and NSXPC

Can a new URL protocol class use an XPC to sandbox the Internet work? I wonder how the service gets its calls across as callbacks (or whatever) for the protocol class. Can the service be configured to take multiple connections (i.e. simultaneous protocol instances)?
