Third-party peer-to-peer Wi-Fi?

In any of Apple's announcements today, is peer-to-peer Wi-Fi connectivity with third-party devices something that will be supported? We still have a terrible user experience with our 3D scanning camera, which requires a very high-bandwidth connection between itself and the iPad.
