On iOS there are some high-level APIs for detecting whether an IP address is reachable by WiFi or by cell, and for specifying that a TCP connection only be allowed to use WiFi.
Is there something similar for Mac OS? For example, I’m on the train right now and my MBP is tethered to my iPhone’s cell connection. It would be really nice if my app could decide to defer downloading that 500MB file until I get to the office.
(I know that at a low level this would be hard to tell, since I do have a WiFi connection, and even if I know that it’s to an iOS device, that still doesn’t tell me whether the iOS device is on cell or WiFi. But hopefully Apple’s done the plumbing to make this detectable?)
