Just to close this topic. I realised that there are two firewire
sources shown when connecting a DVCPRO HD source. One represents a
1080i input and the other the 720p input. Quicktime defaults to the
1080i input and that's why I was getting the garbled image. Selecting
the other firewire input results in a correct 720p overlay. Nice!

A little off topic perhaps.
Can anyone shed light on why DVCPRO HD 720p60 or 720p50 firewire
inputs can not be monitored in Quicktime apps other than FCP. Every
other type of input from firewire DV25, DV50 and DVCPRO HD 1080 can
be viewed outside of FCP (such as Quicktime Player Pro's record
feature), but a DVCPRO HD 720p60 or 720p50 firewire input shows a
garbled display in every other app apart from FCP v6.0.
I'm guessing it has to do with the 60p or 50p bit, but also
wondered if this is unintentional or very much by design that
general Quicktime apps can not tap into this particular digitizer
like they can with all the others?
Many thanks
