By the way, that's in FCP. In Motion, just as with filter inputs, your temporally retrieved field would be scaled up to full frame size. You can determine which you will get by looking at [fxHostCapabilities upscalesFields].

Technically speaking, isn’t the field scanline-duplicated to create the full frame?
If so, let’s not use the word “scale”. Sorry to be so pedantic, but with field duplication or field interpolation, I can retrieve the original field and create a full frame using the field-to-frame algorithm of my choosing by using the original field. With scaling, the original field scanlines gets softened when scaled up to a full frame, so any field retrieval algorithm on the scaled-up frame does not allow me to retrieve the original field.
I’m sure field duplication/interpolation is what you mean by “scale”, but since “scale” is already used to mean another operation I vote not to use it.
(and when is FCP going to replace it’s “Field Dominance” setting to with “Field Order’ in the sequence and footage settings? I field a bug report on this back in 2000! :-)).
