Title: Re: FCP6 TemporalImageAPI - returning an image different from main input
but our impression has been that most 3rd party developers want to do as little worrying about things like coordinate spaces, resolution, fields, etc. as possible and concentrate on writing image processing routines. I realize that doesn't describe everyone, though. For someone writing a really great deinterlacer, it's absolutely required to be able to get fields, whereas someone writing a blur might prefer to never see fields at all.
Oh my, don’t get me started.
I rather not worry about it, but frankly that gets me into trouble. And burying your head into the sand doesn’t make things better.
For example, line doubling to make full frames is just death to our tracking software (like what’s in Twixtor, RSMB, etc.). So we have to know about HOW you uprez fields to frames, so we can undo it if necessary.
And what about if I’m just writing a blur routine, what if I see some artifacts because a field has been line-doubled (and yes, I generally see those things). Would I need to deinterlace myself. In a word: yes.
Same with frame rates, resolution, coordinate spaces, etc.
The more the app tries to make everything “nice”, the more “nice” becomes a dirty word.
And I know we are part of the “this doesn’t describe everyone” section of the crowd :-) That’s not to say I don’t want the app to do lots of great things so we can eliminate or reduce work, but there are always times when we here at RE:Vision Effects will need a workaround to those nice things.
Pete
