Hi Rainer!
I've drawn a picture to try to illustrate the relationships of the
media delay and in/out in the context of multicliips and multiclip
angles.
Attachment:
pastedGraphic.pdf
Description: Adobe PDF document
The first angle clip shows each multiclip angle clip, as with any
clips, can have an in and out indicating which portion of the media
show be used in this clip. So now that we see the relationship to
media, I'll leave that level of detail out of the next angle for
clarity...
The second angle clip shows then how you can line up each of these
angle clips in the multiclip. The second angle will be black from the
beginning of the multiclip for the duration specified in mediadelay
after which, the second angle clip will be displayed.
(You can see how it doesn't really make sense for the media delay to
be negative since one could simply mark a later 'in' on the clip to
achieve the same result.)
Now on your specific question, Syncing by in point (synctype 1) means
that all the in points of each angle clip are lined up at the
beginning of the multiclip. In that case I don't think you should have
any media delay.
A great way to understand these values better is simply to create the
desired multiclip alignment in FCP, then modify something (like the in
point of one clip) and make another multiclip, then compare the XML
for each one and see where they differ.
Hope that helps.
Regards,
Helena

Hi Helena,
hope this one is going to make more sense...
When I create a multiclip using synctype one I find that the
clipitems in the individual angles have an in (45 in the attached
example). Now that I know what the mediadelay does I can't quite see
how the 45 factors in, or how it was derived. Can you shed some light?
Thanks,
Rainer
