FCP edl import

Somewhat of a newbie here..  Is it possible to automate the import of an EDL to FCP, either via drag/drop and/or a plugin?  We're investigating an application that will build up an EDL in FCP interactively, such that there is a one-touch action by the user to add to that EDL.  Thanks for any help.
