Hi Eberhard,
This looks like a bug in FCP. It only seems to happen in our RT
display path; if I render your sequence using Cmd-R, both transitions
function the same way.
I think that the second case is actually the correct one (and both
transitions work this way once I render). The way your timeline is
set up, the transition's input A is nothing, and input B is a
generator. The result of this transition is then composited over the
caustics generator. So, the caustics is the background, not the A
input to the transition, and should not be "pushed".
I've filed a bug report on your behalf at bugreport.apple.com.

Hello,
while testing a transition effect in Final Cut Pro (6.0.5), I
stumbled over a strange phenomenon when applying the transition
between two layers: In some cases the transition works, in other
cases it seems image A is provided with alpha = 0.
After some further testing I found the same problem with some of
FCP's built-in transitions.
The attached project demonstrates the problem:
<Transition Issue.zip>
In the first case the transition to a constant color works correctly
(image A is moved), while in the second case image A is not moved
but is only shown as background. When I apply a filter effect to
the color generator, the first transition no longer works either.
Am I missing a point, or is this an issue with FCP?
Thanks for any help,
