saving plugin internal state

Is there a way for an object referenced by a FxPlugin
in FCP to save it's internal state in the FCP project file?

PS: I'm severely dyslexic, so read excruciatingly slowly.
I've tried reading the docs, but wasn't successful at finding this info.
Sorry if I'm asking something that should be obvious.
