Hi Helena,

First off, sorry if you're getting this email twice. I tried sending to the list from my work email, which isn't signed up for it.

Our current suspicion is that the problem we're having has something to do with how OS X currently perceives the size of a remote file (at least over SMB).

I've done some experimenting with this and found that if the file is poked in Finder in such a way (Clicked, Apple-I, etc) then it gets the latest info for a given remote file, issuing the apple event then has the expected behavior, and we see the duration update. The problem is, OS X doesn't seem to do this automatically at all.

What I would expect is that FCP would go read the remote file each time this apple event is issued, and this would give the user the most current data. I understand that you don't want to thrash a remote fileserver with lots of requests, but at the same time this could be attempted after many hours of recording without FCP ever seeing the new duration.

thank you, Helena, for your quick response.

Our program send the "Update Media File" apple event.
Hmm.. I would like to investigate the pattern it works further.

Let me give some time to take a look at it.
Thank you, again~ :)

Hi JongAm,

I believe if you send the update media file apple event ('udfF') we'll update our information about the media file.

further documentation can be found here

Hello, all.

May I ask a question about FCP's picking up the latest file size / duration information from a video file which is already loaded to a FCP project window?

We produce many video files which still grow when they are added to FCP project window.
At certain point, the file will stop growing, because recording is finished.
Then, we want the FCP project window shows the proper "duration" of the file.

Is there a way to refresh the FCP project window when recording is finished?

Thank you.

Does this describe our situation enough? Is there any missing workflow or behaviour?
