Hi JongAm,
OS versions should have nothing to do with the AppleEvents in FCP. In Final Cut Pro 7.0 we did add more default behaviours so you should get 'something' back. So the first decsription you mention is the newer one. Older FCPs older than will get you nothing. So to make sure you always get something back, regardless of FCP version, you should specify what you want. The online documentation is for the newest version of FCP and as such says the first of these.
