Hello Peter,
If you want to replace the standard icons with your custom icons, why not remove the alias to the master and replace it with your own .icns? In other words, your droplet would have your custom .icns, and other droplets would continue to point to the master.
If that isn't an option, you should be able to paste a 512x512 image into the Get Info box.
