Pete, Good news! Something works the way you want! You can actually re-order and rename all of your published parameters. In Motion, click on the "Project" item in the layer list, then open the inspector and click on the "Project" tab. You should see the list of published parameters. You can click on them to drag them around to put them in any order. If you double-click on the name of a parameter, you can change it. This works for drop zones, as well.

The name of these ImageParams are LayerToRetreive1 and LayerToRetrieve2. I dropped two new Drop Zones into them which I've renamed Alt Source 1 and Alt Source 2.
When I apply the effect two things happen: 1) Neither my parameter name, nor my renaming of the Drop Zones, is preserved. I presume this is a bug (we choose our names to be descriptive, even though this example may not appear that this is true :-)). 2) The Drop Zones now appear in FCP at the top. Placement and order is important!
See pictures.
