Hello Alex,
I am currently in the final stages on adapting my Quartz Composer
plugin package "QC Integration FX" for FCP X and Motion 5.
Can you exactly explain what you need? I think I can add the "missing"
feature into my plugin package (if it is not already there), so that
you can do what you actually want to do.

Darrin,
Thanks for following up on this.
Sadly I'm more of an FxScripter than Xcode developer. The modern
equivalent
is a 'motion developer' for now. I plan to produce a variety of free
templates for FCP X to showcase effects possibilities and ease
adoption for
FCP Classic editors.
I guess my best bet is for Gabriele de Simone of Noise Industries to
come up
with some extensions to FxFactory that include a variety of OSC
hooks into
quartz compositions. I'll post that request in their forum.

Alex,
As I mentioned last week, I discussed this with our designers, and
the problem
is not on your end. What you're trying to do won't work due to the
way things
work inside the apps. The only option to get the results you want
is to write
an FxPlug with the appropriate OSC. It might be worth doing,
depending on how
popular your plug-in is.

In order to get to know Motion Effects, I thought I could produce
a slightly
improved Mask effect.

Unfortunately, in Final Cut, the 'Track Points' behaviour doesn't
evaluate
more than once. This means that although it is possible to
keyframe the mask
controls, the updated positions aren't passed to the masking
rectangle.
Is the lack of keyframing due to a mistake in my Motion effect
construction,
or is it a bug in Motion 5 or Final Cut Pro X?
